Dear Mr. President,
Thank you for crafting and signing the historic United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in your first term, fulfilling your promise to deliver fairer and more reciprocal trade for American farmers and businesses. As a collective of farmers, ranchers, and rural Americans from across the nation, we write to respectfully urge you to renew the agreement and make targeted improvements to promote long-term certainty and stability for farm families and workers in the food manufacturing sector.
The USMCA is foundational to American food and agriculture’s success, providing expanded cross-border rail traffic, long-term policy certainty, and greater supply chain predictability for American producers – and this agreement delivers for American consumers, too.
Since you brokered this agreement . . .
- Exports to Mexico have increased by $10.7 billion, and exports to Canada by $7.6 billion. Over a third of U.S. agriculture exports are destined for Mexico and Canada, creating important and reliable markets for our products.
- North American trade has propped up more than half a million U.S. jobs in food and agriculture, and the agreement has generated more than $60 billion in U.S. agricultural exports to Canada and Mexico.
- American families have access to more affordable food options, which has helped our country weather unpredictable natural disasters and tragedy.
This agreement is a win for farmers, a win for American families, and a win for you, Mr. President. When rural America considers your legacy, this agreement will be toward the top of the list.
We appreciate the opportunity to share our thoughts on this important agreement and welcome the opportunity to provide additional perspective on how the USMCA fuels American Agriculture.
Sincerely,
Agricultural Coalition for USMCA
